I am not one to throw out superlatives. My wife and I travel all over the world and sometimes accommodations suck. Check my review of some places in Africa…. lol

Our goal was to spend Christmas in a warm place on the beach and just chill. This place totally met that goal. If your are thinking about a “beach” house in Costa Rica, please understand that there are very few rental homes that are really on the beach, maybe 6. Most of the “beach” homes require you to be a mountain goat to climb up and down a cliff to get to the beach. This house requires you to open the patio door and walk 40 yards on soft sand to reach one of the most beautiful beaches we have ever seen.

We had the beach to ourselves almost everyday. We would sit there and count the people we could see in either direction, average count was 7. We got a good laugh because the house manager told use that the beach would be crowded on Christmas day, apparently “crowded” in Manuel Antonio means less than 50 people scattered along almost a mile of beach. I have video to prove it… lol. Oh i guess they have their busy days but we certainly did not see one in the 9 days we were there. If you rent this place you must be prepared to :
    1. walk along the beach to a village to buy your groceries or go to a restaurant.
    2. have privacy but also the ability to access virtually every activity Costa Rica has to offer.
    3. have daily maid / laundry / gardener/ guard.
    4. go into Quepos and buy some fresh fish right off the boat for the BBQ.

If I were to try and come up with a complaint it, I would say the bedding could have been softer. I slept fine but was trying to balance the review the best I could.

This trip we took our daughters and my brother and his wife. Everyone had a great time. Susan did a great job arranging the activities. Everything was flawless.

Next time it will be just my wife and I.

We were 3 couples travelling together. Two of the couples could not walk far to get to a beach. This house was perfectly located because it is on the beach, yet secluded thanks to the gardens and meandering paths to both the beach and the road. The house is beautifully designed and furnished. The kitchen has everything. The beds are firm but comfortable. The service from Susan (the conscierge appointed by the rental company) was extraordinary. The maid service was excellent, discrete and efficient and friendly. What I liked best was the ability to come back to the house for supper, then go outside with a drink and watch the magnificent sunset on the beach or watch the monkeys on the property (happened only once, unfortunately). I hope to go back. Everything was wonderful.

Without a doubt, this was our best family vacation ever. This was our first time renting a home as opposed to staying at an all inclusive resort. We have 3 children ages 5, 8, and 10 and we also brought their grandparents along. Highlights:
    – Daily visits from the monkeys in our backyard
    – Footsteps from a beautiful white sandy beach (great for morning/evening jogs or just building sand castles)
    – Several sitings of sea turtles crossing the beach to nest its eggs
    – Daily impeccable maid service (which included personal laundry)
    – Personal gourmet chef (Desiree, we miss you!) that customized our meals to perfection
    – A super helpful and accommodating concierge (Thank you Susan) that made check in / check out & excursion booking absolutely smooth
    – Property nestled in coconut trees to give a secluded feeling while still easily accessible to the heart of Manuel antonio
    – Access to phenomenal zip-lining, jungle buggy tour (, horseback riding, white water rafting, ATV tours, parasailing
    – An overall phenomenal vacation experience – How much did the children enjoy it? Given the choice to return to The Beach House in Costa Rica or go back to Disney World, they unanimously chose The Beach House! It’s a wonderful vacation destination with the perfect environment to enjoy quality family time and build lifelong, treasurable memories. Perfect blend of eco-adventure & relaxation. We are already looking at dates to return.

We were 3 couples traveling together. The location of the beach house was fantastic, with beach access right out your back door and easy walking to restaurants and stores either along the beach or the road. The beach outside the house was very quiet, but, if you wanted a little more action and activities a 5 minute walk to the left and it was all there. While the house was nicely appointed the beds were not very comfortable. The other thing missing at this house was an outdoor dining table. We did have a few ‘monkey shows’ when we were there and that was really neat. watching them swing from tree to tree and even drinking from the pool. We were also lucky enough to see a sloth walking along one of the monkey bridges, which was awesome. The housekeeper was there daily and was wonderful, always helpful with information and kept the house looking great at all times.

  5. Amy says:

We loved Manuel antonio. The house made us feel like we were locals for a week. The staff was extraordinary. The proximity to the public beach made the vacation feel easy and relaxed. We especially liked seeing local residents along with x pats in the area v. East coast vacationers. The access to nearby adventures and activities made the logistics seemless.

Excellent destination for local organic food — and environmental respect.

  6. Gene says:

The home was beautiful and well maintained. Very clean and gardener was great. The beach was kept clean. Susan, our contact person, was wonderful. We felt that we had known her always. Always on call to make any arrangements we requested. A short walk along the beach to the grocery store was nice. We enjoyed preparing our meals, but ate out some, also. Good restaurants nearby. Easy to get a cab or take the bus. Very affordable. Would definitely do it again.

  7. Pam Miller says:

I’ve been to Hawaii 14 times, Mexico more than that, and all over the States, and I can honestly rate this vacation as one of my favorites. Susan, our concierge, was extremely helpful before and during our stay, taking care of any issues we had. The house was much more than we expected. From the spacious living and dining area to the well-stocked kitchen, the five of us never felt cramped or lacking for amenities.

Each day the monkeys entertained us by flying through the trees and onto the roof, then back through the trees again.

Our activities included the coastal crawl, canopy tour and used a guide for the nature park at Manual antonio. All were better than expected. A guide is definitely a must at the park.

We enjoyed walking the beach every day. It was never busy by our house. To walk to a store and the restaurants was about 15 minutes along the beach Other restaurants are a short cab ride away. The menus were diverse at each place, and the food was always excellent.

We had a personal driver pick us up and return us to the San Jose airport, which was a little less than a 3-hour drive. Each driver stopped when we asked him to, which was customer service at its best. No matter where we went, everyone was so accommodating, upbeat and anxious to make our stay hassle free.

If you plan to buy alcohol, do so at the duty free shop at the airport; it’s about twice as much in the stores in town. Beer is reasonable anywhere. Try the Costa Rican beer.

There is nothing negative I can say about the house or the country. I plan to return again and try other activities and restaurants.

We are glad that Beach House # 3 in Quepos, Costa Rica was our last stop before returning to Los angeles after our tour of South america. It was the perfect way to finish our travel adventures on a high note.

The Beach House is run with utmost care and professionalism keeping the comfort of the traveler in mind. We were a group of 6 (3 couples) spent 5 days – in what could be aptly described as Paradise.

Beach Villa # 3 is well equipped and sleeps 8 people with no problem. The rooms are very comfortable, and brings in a lot of light. We wake up to the chirping of birds every morning. When you step downstairs for coffee seated by the pool surrounded by thick lush green foliage – expect the ‘white faced’ monkeys to visit you.

Daily the garden is tended and the pool is cleaned and there is maid service to wash our clothes daily.

The beach is about fifty yards from the swimming pool – but is well camouflaged by foliage and gives you absolute privacy. When you are on the beach you cannot see the Villa – such is the masterful vision of the architect who designed Villa # 3.

There are several activities around the Beach House and Susan, the concierge will take care of everything. We visited Manuel antonio National Park, did one of the most exciting Zip Lining adventure with 16 stations, a boat trip to visit a coral garden – all arranged by Susan, our concierge.

The chefs in our group decided to by pass the gourmet chefs who were available on call and cooked up a seafood feast comprising of squid, prawns and fish – all freshly caught. Thanks to the well stocked kitchen and the crockery and cutlery, it made the feast all the more enjoyable.

Four of us who live in North america – originally from the tropical island paradise of Sri Lanka have now found a nearby exotic private beach to spend our vacations close to Los angeles where we now live

Our group stayed at this beautiful beach house in June and had a fantastic time! The property is stunning and set in the middle of the lush jungle just steps from the beach. We enjoyed walks on the long wide beach and refreshing dips in the cool pool upon our return. The house is tastefully decorated with a great layout and we were all comfortable. You have the sense of living in a tree house. The monkey visits are amazing and unforgettable! Susan, our concierge was great and extremely helpful in planning our visit and tours. We did the zipline canopy tour, the coastal crawly and treated ourselves to massages and a private chef cooking for us. All were great experiences and exceeded our expectations! The staff at the house are friendly and helpful and take great pride in their work and in making you feel welcome! We HIGHLY recommend staying at Casa Phillips and plan on returning. Our stay was magical!

  10. J Saig says:

We loved this house!! We’ve been all over Costa Rica and this is now our favorite spot. The house set up was perfect for our family and 3 kids. The monkeys came out almost daily and put on a show for our kids. Their reaction was priceless! The house manager was so helpful with any of our requests/needs and the daily housekeeper was fantastic. I would highly recommend this house:) it was a wonderful time for us all — going from the beach to the pool, wild life, cozy accomodations, etc… simply awesome!
    Pura vida

  11. Wanda Dearmond says:

My boyfriend and I rented the Beach House for a week. It was the most unbelievable week we have ever had. To start with Susan was completely amazing at how attentive she was in our every need to make sure everything was scheduled for us and went perfect. She stayed in touch with us on a regular basis. There is no words to describe the house staff. They were all part of our family when we left, which we so did not want to do. This vacation home was absolutely beautiful. With the home, Susan and the staff we both now want to make it our vacation spot every chance we get. I HIGHLY recommend this home for your most perfect vacation ever.

  12. Lee Czerwonka says:

My wife & I had a great time vacationing in Manuel Antonio. The villa was perfect! Well maintained, great access to the beach, a terrific pool, easy access to shops and great restaurants. Susan the Property Manager was also very knowledgeable about the property and surrounding area which was very helpful. We had monkeys that visited us regualarly along with beautiful hummingbirds. We will definitely be back and will stay at Villa 3 again!

  13. guest says:

Family of 6 with four children ages 3, 6, 8 and 10. They loved this vacation, even better than Maui. The house is well maintained and the housekeeper and gardener are very friendly. The pool was a big hit — the kids could swim and we could clearly see them without being at the pool. The beach is a 1 to 2 minute walk from the house — you can see it through the trees. The monkeys and iguanas and all the trees make for an unforgetable experience. House is conveniently located and well worth the price.

  14. guest says:

This is a beautiful home that is well maintained and secure. There was lots of flora and fauna around the home.We enjoyed the regular visits of monkeys and hummingbirds. We had easy access to the grocery, restaurants and nightlife. We highly recommend the food at El Ranchito at Villas Nicolas. We will definitely be recommending this home to others.

  15. John Morley says:

This was a very memorable family holiday/reunion for retirement age siblings. The house is luxurious and on arrival immediately gave the impression that we were to enjoy an exceptional vacation. Maid service was outstanding and the one catered party we asked for was done very well. The property which opens onto the beautiful sandy beach is the perfect setting for the house and gave a change from lounging around the private pool. Shops and restaurants within easy walking distance made car rental almost unnecessary; 24 hour security was also a comfort.
Although the price is more than I would normally pay for a vacation it was well worth the money.
