A luxury holiday in Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica is a wonderful destination with beautiful beaches, magnificent landscapes and many activities that will suit all visitors. A definite must-see apart from the beaches is Manuel Antonio National Park which is visited by well over 150,000 visitors every year.
There is the option to take a guided tour through the park or simply explore at leisure. Tropical rain forest and hiking trails lead down to the scenic white sandy beaches in this impressive landscape. With its rich biodiversity the park is home to a remarkable range of native wildlife and there are opportunities to observe numerous species in their natural habitat. Keep a look out for:
Monkeys – are a major feature of the park and three species are seen here. The cheeky white faced capuchin is most noticeable, always hopeful of food scraps and howler monkeys can be spotted (and heard) swinging among the trees. The endangered grey crowned squirrel monkey is also a favorite of many and can often be seen at our vacation rentals!
Bird Life- An amazing range inhabits the park with toucans, parakeets, hawks and woodpeckers being among the more easily recognized. Look out for the Brown Pelican, Fiery Billed Acari, Laughing Falcon and kingfisher as well.
Raccoons – Near the beaches the raccoons, like the monkeys, are known to approach people’s bags in search of snacks. They are harmless and will run off if approached.
Sloths – both three and two toed are plentiful and will be seen lazily hanging in the trees or scratching themselves. While walking along the trails a large assortment of creatures can be encountered including bats, exotic frogs, iguanas and huge golden web spiders.
To see this huge variety of fascinating wildlife all happily living in their natural environment is an undeniable reason to visit Manuel Antonio and its amazing National Park.
